Casting vs. Machining: How We Decide the Right Process for Your Part

Buyers often open a quote request assuming the part should be CNC machined. Sometimes it should. Sometimes casting, or casting plus finish-machining, is the better answer. The decision is engineering, not habit.

Start from annual volume

Tolerance and geometry set the ceiling

If the part has thin walls, internal cavities or complex contours, casting can deliver the shape in one piece where machining would mean welding or assemblies. If the part needs tight datums and flat sealing faces, finish-machining those features after casting gives you both economies and accuracy.

How we recommend

We compare total landed cost — material, machine time, scrap, tooling amortised over your volume — and show you the trade-off in the quote. You decide with numbers, not guesswork.
